Hazard reduction burn planned for Goonoo State Conservation Area Saturday 26 August

Weather permitting, the controlled burn aims to treat more than 650-hectares of bushland.

The entire Conservation Area, including all walking tracks and management trails will be closed to visitors from 26 August.

The burn will reduce naturally accumulated fuel loads, which will help protect nearby rural properties from future wildfires and enhance the area's biodiversity.

Motorists should use caution when driving on Mendooran Road and Mogriguy Forest Road, follow all traffic control and safety signage.

Smoke may be visible in the area, particularly to isolated rural properties near the reserve.

People vulnerable to smoke are encouraged to remain indoors and keep their doors and windows closed to reduce exposure.

People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Planning and Environment. The RFS website also provides advice and regular updates on planned burns.

This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
